Our PSHE programme is designed to support the personal development, wellbeing, and future readiness of every student. Delivered through dedicated lessons and form-time activities, the curriculum follows the PSHE Association’s thematic model, covering three core strands across all year groups:

Year 1 Focus Areas
- Autumn 1 – Health & Wellbeing
Students explore peer influence, substance misuse, and gang exploitation. They learn to identify healthy vs. unhealthy friendships, manage risk, and understand the legal and health implications of drugs and alcohol. - Autumn 2 – Living in the Wider World
Focus on goal setting, career options, and recognising personal strengths. Students begin planning for GCSE and post-16 pathways. - Spring 1 – Relationships
Topics include family structures, conflict resolution, and managing relationship changes. Students learn about accessing support services and maintaining respectful relationships. - Spring 2 – Health & Wellbeing
Emphasis on healthy lifestyles, including diet, exercise, sleep, and first aid. Students explore the link between physical and mental health and take responsibility for personal wellbeing. - Summer 1 – Relationships
Relationships and sex education, including consent, contraception, STIs, and the impact of media and pornography. - Summer 2 – Living in the Wider World
Students develop employability skills, understand online presence, and learn about employment rights and responsibilities.
Year 2 Focus Areas

Mental health awareness, stigma, and strategies for emotional wellbeing. Students learn how to access support and challenge stereotypes. - Autumn 2 – Living in the Wider World
Financial literacy, budgeting, debt management, gambling risks, and the influence of advertising. - Spring 1 – Relationships
Healthy relationships, expectations, and challenges. Students examine the impact of media and online relationships. - Spring 2 – Health & Wellbeing
Exploring influence—drugs, gangs, role models, and media. Students learn how to manage peer pressure and seek help when needed. - Summer 1 – Relationships
Addressing extremism and radicalisation. Students explore inclusion, diversity, and how to challenge discrimination. - Summer 2 – Living in the Wider World
Preparation for work experience, evaluating strengths, and understanding workplace responsibilities.
Year 3 Focus Areas
- Autumn 1 – Health & Wellbeing
Building for the future: stress management, self-efficacy, and resilience. Students learn to balance ambition with realistic expectations. - Autumn 2 – Living in the Wider World
Next steps: CV writing, interview skills, career progression, and managing work-life balance. - Spring 1 – Relationships
Communication in relationships, personal values, assertiveness, and managing relationship challenges including abuse. - Spring 2 – Health & Wellbeing
Independence and responsible health choices. Topics include first aid, cancer awareness, vaccinations, and accessing health services. - Summer 1 – Relationships
Family structures, parenting, pregnancy, miscarriage, adoption, and forced marriage. Students also explore grief and bereavement.
This comprehensive PSHE curriculum ensures students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate life’s challenges, make informed decisions, and prepare for a successful future.
